Here’s something interesting I learned today. Apparently, creativity is measurable in the brain. Researchers have figured out that creativity often starts with prolonged activation of the default mode network – the system responsible for you daydreaming. It is then followed up by the executive control network – responsible for your inner critic, the system that lets you zoom in on the important stuff. Creativity is quite literally an ebb and flow. This supports an idea I’ve had for a while: creativity is a cycle, not a constant state.
